Everything used to bright

Dreamy photo effect: look through rose-colored glasses

We are aware that we see our pasts through rose-tinted glasses. Even if we went through some shitty moments in our childhood, we still remember them fondly. Situation arises, feelings rush in, lessons learnt.

But, I am afraid that we tend to think our childhoods were much better than the next generations that are living through theirs. We call out on the kind of content they see, the things they say and the environment they live in.

"A 12 year old boy, living with parents, in so-so area committed suicide by..."

"How's it possible for him to kill himself at such a young age? I didn't even know what was suicide back then."

Some kid watches a cartoon named Chhota Bheem, Oggy and the Cockroaches on TV.

"OMG! I can't believe that children are shown this stuff. It's so boring, unoriginal and badly made."

I tend to think we glorify a lot about our pasts and make it known to them that theirs won't be as good as us. Almost, making them want to be born in the era we were in rather than living the one they are right now.

I believe our past was just as horrible as theirs is, we were just as suicidal, bitchy, athletic, competitive, stupid, and mindless as they were back then. We didn't understand what we watched but we enjoyed it anyways, we did not get what we spoke most of times but we said it anyways, we laughed till our hearts out, we made mistakes and perhaps, even got hooked onto things that our parents never approved of, developed opinions and did things that society did not like.

I say, let them live their lives as it is, enjoy the things that they have right now with them and perhaps even show enthusiasm for what they do, for accepting bits and pieces of them and their generation might better our relationship with them.

And perhaps, even introduce them to what we had, for they shall adapt it if they think it's better than theirs. :-P
