The Narrative of Hurt
Complain
Whenever we tell a person about what someone did to us, which caused the unexpected emotions - for example, anger, sadness, hurt, irritation, shock etc.
We always talk about what the other person did to us.
How did they behave?
What did they say?
"What an idiot","How appalling!",
"I didn't like it when...", "It bothers me that..."
What starts off as a rant or a vent is usually surface level.
And, let's face it, all of us need to blow off steam or release the emotions that we have held inside.
Stories
We all have an idea of what happened, and how it happened.
Sure you were interpret it as being wrong on your part but it didn't have to go that far.
Yeah, it was a slip-up but wasn't it an over-reaction?
We over-estimate the way someone reacts and under-estimate our role in it.
We are a spectator or the willing participant of the situation.
A situation we thought we had in our control, but went in a direction we didn't have in mind at all.
Lesson
Lastly, we associate this thing with a lesson.
Perhaps stick a label to the behavior displayed there, a lack of understanding, a miscommunication or a deep sense of disappointment, regret and uncertainty of it.
Even a complete change of opinion towards something that fit in your definition of "good", previously.
What I find myself doing is though that
"I am the one who is responsible for..."
"I shouldn't have said..."
"I would've prevented it if...."
I feel like I am the only one who always does it wrong but find great pleasure in blaming others.
If only I didn't see things as black and white, it wouldn't be a problem.
